Daily Echo: Traffic sign Check the latest local traffic reports

RUSH hour traffic delays in Southampton are being caused by container lorries queuing to get into the docks.

Congestion was building up on the A35 inbound to the M271 this morning near the Redbridge Roundabout as the vehicles try to get into Dock Gate 20.

The delay was caused by lorry drivers waiting to get their time slot.

This was leading to tailbacks on the A35 heading into Southampton from Redbridge, as well as the M271. The latest delays come as lorry drivers and haulage firms fear major delays at the docks have cost them vital cash at their busiest time of year, as goods are transported for the Christmas market.

Queues have been building up this week, with many nose to tail along First Avenue all the Way to the Millbrook Roundabout as they wait for a time slot.

But hauliers say the wasted time is costing them money.

DP World, which operates the container docks, has said it would be putting in to place a number of contingency problems to clear the backlog.
