THE man whose body was found in the Solent has been named by police.
He was David Alan Powell, from Ryde on the Isle of Wight.
The 64-year-old was married for more than 41 years to his wife with whom they had three children.
A yachtsmen spotted Mr Powell’s body in the water in the Ryde Middle Bank area of the Solent and notified HM Coastguard on the morning of Monday, November 15, 2010. Police were called at 11.41am the same day.
The death is not being treated as suspicious.
Hampshire Constabulary’s Marine Unit was assisted by Cowes RNLI lifeboat in bringing the body ashore to West Cowes so it could be taken to St. Mary’s Hospital in Newport.
Police are preparing a file for HM Isle of Wight Coroner who will open and adjourn an inquest today when the preliminary results of a post-mortem examination on Mr Powell’s body are due to be confirmed.
