HE was the youngest resident to take the plunge this year and turn a Hampshire town into a glowing Christmas wonderland.

Fareham’s young citizen William Luckett, 12, a pupil at Cams Hill School, took to the stage with Mayor Brian Baford, Mayoress Susan Baford and Widow Twanky and Aladdin from Ferneham Hall’s Christmas panto.

Santa Claus even managed to make a trip to Fareham to get up on stage with the VIPs and throw sweets out to wide-eyed children in the crowd.

Hundreds of people packed together to watch this year’s impressive lights illuminate the centre.

A dazzling fireworks display even filled the sky so residents could celebrate the Christmas countdown in style while the Rock Choir took to the stage to get the jam-packed crowd singing to Christmas favourites and pop hits.

Portsmouth City Band performed in the glowing bandstand as shoppers, wrapped up against the chill, left the festive party.

Christmas activities throughout the day and evening included fairground rides for children, festive stalls and other bands, dance schools and choirs performing live on stage.
