Burlesque dancers will strut their stuff for a good cause in Southampton tonight.

A show, featuring performances from Ruby Rebelle, Orla Tease, Lotte Lovin and Cookie Noir is being held at The Hobbit, Bevois Valley Road, in aid of the Breast Cancer Campaign.

Organiser and dancer Delphine Turk aka ‘Ruby Rebelle’, 19, from Melville Road, Gosport, said: “I really chose the charity because my gran was diagnosed with breast cancer three years ago.

“It has touched the lives of a lot of the girls that are performing.”

It’s Delphine’s debut, having taught herself burlesque dancing from Internet videos and going to shows.

Burlesque dancer Alina-Jane Lovell, whose stage name is ‘Orla Tease’, is travelling from London to take part.

She said: “It’s just such a good cause – my sister and my best friend’s sister have both suffered from breast cancer and I know they felt like it was a personal attack on their femininity.”

She thinks people often get the wrong idea about burlesque.

She added: “People’s initial reaction when you tell them you are a burlesque performer is to assume you are a stripper. I truly see burlesque as an art form.”

The show starts at 8.30pm.
