THE new home of Winchester Talking Newspapers has been opened by the city’s mayor, Councillor Richard Izard.
He presided over the ceremony, which took place in the new studios at Chesil House in Chesil Street.
The talking newspaper is moving into the former boardroom of funeral directors, Richard Steel and Partners.
The firm made the space available after the talking newspaper had to leave its old base at the Royal Hampshire County Hospital.
The part of the hospital site in Romsey Road that it once occupied is earmarked for development.
Its new studio is more modern than the last one and comes at a time when the talking newspaper is “going digital”.
Rather than cassette tapes, it is now recording the weekly news onto memory sticks.
The talking newspaper, which was founded 20 years ago, has around 80 volunteers and 130 visually impaired subscribers.
