Hampshire gamers braved the cold last night to be among the first to grab one of the most sought after video games of the year – Gran Turismo 5.

Since the birth of the series in 1997, more than 56 million Gran Turismo games have been sold for the PlayStation consoles, making it one of the most successful racing game franchises of all time.

Always held in high regard by critics and gamers alike, this latest instalment’s release has been eagerly awaited since the launch of the PlayStation 3 in March 2007.

Gran Turismo 5 boasts an impressive selection of over 1,000 vehicles and 71 tracks from 26 different locations. It also brings new licences to the franchise in the form of World Rally Championship, NASCAR and Super GT.

Local racing driver Paul Dickinson was at the GAME store in East Street. He said: “I’ve been looking forward to this game for a very long time now and I certainly hope it’s worth the wait. I guess that now we find out.”
