A GAS firm has been fined £20,000 after a car flipped on its side when it hit a metal plate during road works.
Southern Gas Networks have been prosecuted by the Health and Safety Executive, following the accident on the Isle of Wight.
The incident happened on Foreland Road, Bembridge on April 2 2008, leaving the driver with severe bruising and having to be cut free by the fire service.
Southern Gas Networks PLC was also ordered to pay costs of £13,523.
