A SOUTHAMPTON publican told police he was terrified for himself and a customer’s safety after a teenager pulled out a five-inch knife.

Colin Day had been ordered to leave The Castle Inn after shouting comments at customers in the car park.

But he and another youth returned half an hour later and looking through a window, again shouted abusive remarks.

Prosecutor Peter Spink said landlord Michael Warner again told him to go but after the youth began tussling with a customer, the 19-year-old pulled out the knife.

He started to walk towards the customer, looking as though he was going to stab him, but Mr Warner grabbed his wrist and disarmed him.

Day, of Hillside Avenue, Southampton, admitted affray and possessing a bladed weapon.

He also admitted breaching the terms of an Asbo by being drunk in another pub on a separate occasion.

Jailing him for 15 months, Judge Patrick Hooton told him: “If you are motivated to change, this is your chance, otherwise you will come back here more and more until you reach the age of 45 and then wonder where your life has gone.”
