PEOPLE will get the chance to have their say on the future of a city health centre tonight.

The first of a series of public meetings will take place this evening to discuss what will happen to the Bitterne walk-in centre.

It was feared the centre would be closed but after months of uncertainty health bosses pledged that was no longer an option, although opening hours will be slashed.

NHS Southampton City now have two options for the future of the centre, operating only on weekends and bank holidays or opening weekday evenings, weekends and bank holidays.

The meeting will take place at the Eastpoint Centre in Thornhill from 7-9pm, as part of the 13-week formal public consultation, which was launched on November 15.

It will be an opportunity to hear more about NHS Southampton City’s proposals as well as participate in break-out groups for discussion.

Dr Adrian Higgins, clinical director for NHS Southampton City said: “It is really important that we hear from as many people as possible.

“I would encourage all those who have an interest in the issue to come along on Monday evening to share their views with us and raise any questions they may have about our proposals.”

Two further public meetings will be held on December 14 and January 25, 2011 as well as two public exhibitions.
