SOUTHAMPTON container port has been shut by the snow and ice.
The terminal, one of the busiest in the UK, was shut this morning because of health and safety fears and staffing problems. It will remain shut for the reminder of the day.
Port director Doug Morrison said: "It has been affecting us pretty badly. The snow is making conditions at the terminal pretty dangerous."
Freightliner trains and lorries arriving and leaving with containers has also been severely affected.
However, the rest of the port has remained open, although the loading and unloading of roll-on-roll-off ships with vehicles has been slowed by slippery conditions.
