FREEZING fog has played havoc for air passengers at Southampton Airport today.
Flights to and from the city have been cancelled as the weather has made it impossible to land.
No planes have been able to arrive at the Eastleigh airfield since shortly after 10am.
Although some aircraft have been able to depart, there have been no flights out of the airport since 4.40pm.
Duty manager Trevor Compton said the airport is still open, but passengers are advised to contact their airlines before travelling.
He said: “We will remain open until normal time at 10.45 tonight in the hope that we can get some flights in, but visibility has been down to about 200m, which is a long way short of the parameters needed to land an aircraft.
“Under current conditions, nothing is able to approach and make a landing, and we’ve got a lot of cancellations for the rest of the day.”
