FIREFIGHTERS have rescued a deer trapped on a frozen pond.
Crews were called to the Boarhunt Road, Fareham, shortly before 8am this morning.
Using inflatable equipment an animal specialist with other officers made their way towards the deer and managed to get a crook around the creature's neck and help it back to the bank.
It was then put in a barn to warm up before an RSPCA inspector took it to The Ark in Stubbington centre for observation.
Once it has recovered from its ordeal it will be released into the wild.
Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service animal rescue specialist Buster Brown said: "The animal was recovered using the same techniques that Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service would use to rescue people who might become trapped on ice, and this rescue provided a excellent opportunity for crews to utilise and practice the procedures."
