A TOWN crier will call out crime-stopping tips to Christmas shoppers in a Hampshire town.

John Melody, left, has been lined up to deliver more than 30 different crime prevention messages during a four-hour session in Eastleigh town centre.

He will be in full 18th century regalia and ringing a traditional bell as he delivers the advice on Thursday between 9.30am and 1.30pm.

The festive stunt has been organised by crime prevention officer Barbara Clayton and funded by the Joint Action Group of the Eastleigh Community Safety Partnership.

Barbara said: “During the busy festive period it is easy for us all to let our guard down. This is a good way to put crime prevention at the forefront of peoples’ minds and remind them to stay vigilant so they can enjoy a happy and safe Christmas which isn’t spoilt by criminals.”
