A BY-ELECTION has been called for a seat in a city council in Hampshire after the recent death of the incumbent.
Councillor David Spender was first elected to the Badger Farm and Oliver’s Battery ward in Winchester in May 2005 but died in October after a battle with cancer.
Polling will take place on Thursday, January 27, at both Badger Farm Community Centre and St Mark’s Church in Oliver’s Battery between 7am and 10pm.
The successful candidate will serve the remainder of his time in office up to May 2012.
Nomination papers can be obtained from the returning officer at the city council offices in Colebrook Street, but must be sent back by noon on Thursday, December 30.
