POLICE last night charged Jo Yeates' neighbour with her murder.
Vincent Tabak, 32, a Dutch national whose flat is next door to the one the 25-year-old landscape architect shared with boyfriend Greg Reardon, is now due to appear at Bristol Magistrates' Court tomorrow.
Jo, who grew up in Hampshire and went to school and college in Chandler's Ford, Romsey and Winchester, went missing on December 17 after enjoying pre-Christmas drinks with work colleagues in Bristol.
Her body was discovered by the side of a road three miles from her home on Christmas Day.
She had been strangled.
Police have been questioning Tabak since he was arrested at a different property in Bristol on Thursday.
Officers have also carried out an extensive search of his basement flat in the converted Canynge Road house where Jo also lived.
Detective Chief Inspector Phil Jones, who is in charge of the investigation, confirmed the arrest and paid tribute to Jo's family.
Her parents, David and Theresa, live in Ampfield, near Romsey.
DCI Jones said: "I would like to pay tribute to Jo's family and Greg for their assistance and dignity in the most difficult of circumstances. Their support to us has been invaluable.
"I would also like to thank the general public for their help and the information they continue to provide to the investigation, and the residents of Canynge Road for their co-operation and patience."
