Southampton was well and truly in the pink as 7,334 women and girls took part in Race for Life yesterday.
They did the city proud as they ran, jogged and walked their way around a 5km course on Southampton Common to raise an estimated £750,000 in sponsorship for Cancer Research UK.
Every shade of pink imaginable was on show at the event – which is one of the biggest Race for Lifes in the country – with many women accessorising their running gear with colourful cowboy hats, tutus, afro wigs and fairy wings for good measure.
Others went the whole hog, taking part in fancy dress costumes ranging from crayons to cleaning ladies and hot dogs to hula girls.
Cancer Research UK spokeswoman Helen Johnstone told the Daily Echo: “When so many people come out to support an event like this it gives everybody hope.
“It’s good fun and it means we can continue our life saving work. We have a centre in Southampton and quite a lot of the research done there is funded by Race for Life.”
