STRIKING union members at Southampton City Council are making their point with a protest song.
They have recorded a musical appeal to council leader Cllr Royston Smith asking him not to cut their pay.
The re-written version of the Flying Pickets’ number one hit Only You has been posted on a video sharing website.
The anonymous singers protect their identities with masks of Cllr Smith’s face which they move in time to the song.
Cllr Smith joked: “It will be in the charts by the end of the week.”
He added: “I’d rather they didn’t but it looks like a bit of fun. I’m not offended by it, I’d have to have a thicker skin if I was.
“It’s not offensive like much of what’s happened before, I don’t think that’s a particularly unreasonable way of making a point.”
