THIRTY-five new jobs are to be created when cut-price retailer 99p Stores opens a brand new outlet in Southampton next week.
The new High Street shop, which is the firm’s fourth in the city, is opening three years to the day since Woolworths shops closed down, during which time its budget rival has trebled in size.
Announcing the new store yesterday, bosses at 99p said they are expecting such large crowds to flock to the new branch they have had to warn police.
The retailer is currently working with Jobcentre Plus to fill the new jobs it is creating by taking over the 6,000 square foot store which used to be occupied by two clothes shops.
Hussein Lalani, the boss of 99p Stores said: “We are delighted to be opening another branch of 99p Stores in Southampton to go with the several we have already.”
The High Street store will open its doors at 9am on November 26.
