AN inquest will take place next week into the death of a Hampshire horse rider killed in a collision with a car.

As previously reported, Lindy Harding was riding along a bridleway when her pony bolted towards a road.

The 59-year-old, from Fareham, fell from her horse after the animal collided with a passing vehicle on Fleet End Road in Warsash.

The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance helicopter was called out, but the retired teacher was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 53-year-old car driver from Locks Heath was uninjured.

After the tragedy, on February 8, friends and colleagues of the experienced horsewoman launched a safety campaign in her memory.

They are calling for more signs in the area warning of equestrian activity. They also want all riders to consider wearing high visibility jackets as well as armbands that identify the rider in the event of an accident.

An inquest will take place at Portsmouth Coroner’s Court on Tuesday at 2pm.
