A NORTH Baddesley man killed himself after becoming convinced he would be in a wheelchair for the rest of his life, an inquest heard.
Nigel Walsh, 58, was found dead by his partner Anna Whitbread at their home in Sycamore Close.
Mr Walsh, a keen cyclist, had been suffering from depression after falling through his garage roof in April while trying to make some repairs, badly injuring his legs. He had been confined to a wheelchair and crutches but was told he would make a full recovery after surgery.
In a statement read to the inquest, his GP Dr Lianne Batchelor said: “He admitted to having some thoughts of ending his life but did not think he would go through with it and was mindful the orthopaedic team had told him he would get back to normal activities and be able to cycle again.”
Ms Whitbread said he was full of life and energy before his accident.
“He changed straight away.
He was looking at elderly people in the hospital and he saw that as his future.”
Sarah Whitby, assistant deputy coroner for Central Hampshire, returned a verdict of suicide.
