A FAST-FOOD restaurant has slashed its late-night opening hours just weeks after a drunken yob threatened customers with a chair.
McDonald’s in Eastleigh will shut at 11pm on Fridays and Saturdays rather than the usual 2.30am closing time while security arrangements are reviewed.
The temporary measure comes after police were called to the town centre eatery in the early hours of the morning amid reports a man had grabbed a chair and was threatening people around him.
Gareth Robinson, 31, was restrained by security staff and officers on October 29 before being arrested and charged for a public order offence.
Southampton Magistrates gave him a curfew for 12 weeks, to January 2. He must remain in his home in Chestnut Avenue in Eastleigh between 7pm and 6am on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.
Sergeant Chris Spellerberg said: “I think the impact of this sentence will bring home how seriously we take public order offences. Being unable to go out and socialise at the weekends, and particularly over the Christmas and New Year period, should certainly make this man think twice about his actions in the future. This type of drunken behaviour is unacceptable and we will not tolerate it.”
A McDonald’s spokesman said: “The safety and wellbeing of our customers remains our priority and we will be working with the local council and police.”
