THE Conservatives have gained a seat on the Isle of Wight Council following a byelection.
Stuart Hutchinson easily won at West Wight, a seat previously held by an independent.
He polled 640 votes while Liberal Democrat Mike Carr received 116 and Rose Lynden-Bell of the UK Independence Party 78.
In June 2009 Independent Stuart Dyer had polled 719 to the Tory Bill Burt’s 624.
