AN experienced horsewoman died in a tragic accident, an inquest heard.
Linda Harding, 59, from Titchfield Common, was riding her Highland pony, Flumpy, when she collided with a car in Fleet End Road, Warsash.
Portsmouth Coroner’s Court heard that Ms Harding emerged onto the road at speed from a bridleway just after 4pm on Tuesday, February 8.
Denise King, from Locks Heath, was driving along the road and told the court she saw a shadow before hearing a smack on her window.
Seeing the horse gallop off, Mrs King found Ms Harding on the ground by her car.
Despite the efforts of paramedics and passersby, Ms Harding died shortly afterwards.
A pathologist report said she suffered severe chest injuries in the fall.
Recording a verdict of accidental death, deputy coroner Karen Harrold said it remained a mystery why Flumpy had bolted.
Family and friends paid tribute to Ms Harding.
Her cousin, Sarah Bannister, 59, said: “She was a pillar of the community, everybody loved her. She was also a wonderful rider.”
