A PENSIONER was seriously injured after a car smashed into railings on a Hampshire road.
The 76-year-old woman was travelling in a green Ford Focus when it left the road on Sunday afternoon.
A 27-year-old male pedestrian was also left injured in the incident, which happened on Mumby Road in Gosport, at its junction with Weevil Lane.
Both people were taken to Queen Alexandra Hospital in Cosham.
Police described the woman’s injuries as “serious and life-threatening”, while the pedestrian was not seriously hurt.
Officers closed the road for more than four hours following the smash, at around 3.20pm, to allow for a forensic examination of the scene.
They are now appealing for witnesses to the crash, or anyone who saw a grey or silver coloured car travelling north along Mumby Road at the time.
Anyone with information should call the Roads Policing Unit at Fratton police station on 101, quoting operation Shantung, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
