AS the Christmas party season approaches, Hampshire health bosses are urging people to love their liver before it is too late.
As part of Alcohol Awareness Week residents across the county are being warned about how dangerous drinking too much booze can be on the liver.
And with death rates linked to alcoholic liver disease risen to over two-thirds in the past 30 years, it makes alcohol one of the most common causes of death.
The Love your Liver campaign is asking people to check how much they drink each week and support is available for those seeking advice.
Dr Christine Jackson, deputy director of public health for NHS Hampshire, said: “People often think that you have to be a heavy drinker to develop liver problems but, although it can take as long as ten to 20 years, drinking just a bit more than recommended amounts can seriously harm your liver.”
