As reported yesterday, rubble and concrete came crashing down onto Cumberland Place in the city centre yesterday morning during the dramatic incident.
Police closed off the busy road, and neighbouring Grosvenor Square, for the rest of the day to allow for structural engineers to assess the six-storey building, which contractors were in the process of demolishing.
Rush hour commuters faced long queues this morning as they snaked their way along a diversion route through normally quiet residential streets to Bedford Place, with police saying motorists should expect “severe delays”.
No one was hurt in the collapse, which happened just minutes before workers from neighbouring businesses and shops were preparing to head out for their lunch breaks.
It is thought the road is likely to remain closed until tomorrow, to allow for the building to be completely knocked down.
