RESIDENTS are being asked to have their say on how their council estate could be improved.

Townhill Park in Southampton is under the spotlight by council chiefs and will form the next major stage of the council’s Estate Regeneration Programme.

These consultations are the latest in a series of talks with residents stretching back to September 2011 when the council launched a Community Day to gain people’s views.

Nearly 100 people turned out to talk about what was important to them, from parks and play areas to housing, shops, facilities, education and transport.

Councillor Peter Baillie, Cabinet member for housing, said: “We go to great lengths to consult with our residents to find out what is important to them and to discover what type of improvements they want.

“This is why I would strongly encourage residents from Townhill Park to meet with us.

We know from our experience that when you work with your residents big improvements can be made.”

The council has vowed that residents’ views will help shape the ideas used in any document which advises prospective developers as to how the transformation of Townhill Park might look.

The consultation is being managed by consultants CB Richard Ellis and Urban Initiatives. Any decision made will be with the help of the local community and is set to be finalised in spring 2012.
