A HEAD teacher will leave on a high note after his school was given the seal of approval by Ofsted inspectors.
King’s Somborne Primary School was rated good with outstanding elements, with tribute paid to retiring head Nick Winning’s dedication and commitment in guiding the school to success.
Mr Winning, who leaves at the end of this term after 15 years, said: “The children should feel very proud of themselves.”
The inspector rated the school good in achievement of pupils, quality of teaching and leadership and management, but outstanding in behaviour and safety of pupils.
The rating matched that achieved in 2006.
Mr Winning said he was particularly pleased by how the inspector had noted pupils’ enthusiasm and care for each other.
In her report, inspector Judith Rundle said pupils’ reading and communication skills were significantly above those expected, although there were inconsistencies in the quality of teaching.
Ofsted wants the school to focus on planning work to ensure that pupils are challenged, particularly the high achievers.
The report noted concerns over bullying from some parents but this had not been borne out by comments from pupils.
Mr Winning said: “I’m delighted.
The report recognises the achievement of the entire team who work especially hard.”
