Southampton hockey star Alex Danson has won a bronze medal as part of Great Britain's Olympic women's hockey squad. Team GB cruised past New Zealand 3-1 this afternoon in the Riverbank Arena to secure third place, easing some of the pain they endured in Wednesday's semi-final defeat to Argentina. Former Trojans player Danson got the home nation underway when she deflected in a penalty corner ten minutes after half-time. Crista Cullen and Sarah Thomas then sealed the victory from another two penalty corners, before New Zealand pulled one back in the dying stages of the game. Danson adds to the medals already won by Southampton-born stars Dani King, Iain Percy and James Foad. King won gold as part of the women's team pursuit track cycling squad, Percy was a silver medallist in the Star class sailing alongside Andrew Simpson, and Foad took home a bronze in the men's eight rowing.
