Baby Olympia and her mother
MARWELL Wildlife has announced that their newest baby giraffe will be called Olympia.
Last week, animal keepers picked four names to go to the public vote – Afia, Arria, Subira and Olympia. The latter was a clear favourite with voters and received a 67 per cent majority in the competition.
Ian Goodwin, collection manager at Marwell said: “We are really pleased Olympia was chosen. It’s a great name and really suits her. It’s also extremely fitting with this year’s Olympic fever.”
As reported in the Daily Echo, Olympia was born on August 17 and is said to be making good progress.
