Flibbertyspinkingringdingadingdangdong - not the average word you'd expect to see printed in a newspaper, but it's the word that shot 11-year-old Isobel Sims to the top of a nationwide competition.

The St Anne's Catholic School pupil took first prize in a Radio 4 competition to make up a word.

The competition was run by children's programme Go 4 It, and asked children to think up a daft word and accompany it with a meaning.

Isobel, pictured, of Bevois Valley, Southampton, beat off all competition in the nine to 14 category.

She said she heard about the competition and knew she had to enter.

"I heard about the competition on Go 4 It and thought that I should take part," she said.

"Coming up with the word was quite easy - I just started by thinking of lots of nonsense words and putting them together."

As part of the prize, Isobel got to appear live on Go 4 It on Sunday evening.

"I was really excited about going to London and appearing on the show, and I'm really happy to have won," she said.

Mum Jo Keall put Isobel's creativity down to her love of reading and writing and her active imagination.

She said: "Isobel is a voracious reader and she has a massive appetite for writing.

"At home she's always writing brilliant stories, and she has a fantastic imagination."

But the big question is, what does flibbertyspinkingringdingadingdangdong mean?

Isobel explained: "The full meaning of the word is eating 500 strawberry and chocolate ice cream sundaes with double cream, chocolate sauce, wafers, flakes, fried octopus, elephant toenails and roast snake with apple sauce in less than ten minutes.'"
