A SOUTHAMPTON head teacher has praised the work of her predecessor Sue Bailey in raising educational standards at Shirley Warren Primary and Nursery School which was this week included in the Chief Inspector of Schools' annual report.

The school in Shirley Warren, where Lynne Sproson is head teacher, was included in the national report because of its outstanding Ofsted report during the last academic year (2005-2006).

Shirley Warren Primary and Nursery School was put into "serious weaknesses" in the Ofsted inspection of March 1998.

Mrs Bailey, who now works at Beechwood Junior School, joined as head teacher in 1999 and saw the school through its successful Ofsted of October 2000.

She was not the head teacher during the 1998 Ofsted inspection.

Lynne Sproson became acting head teacher in September 2001 and became head the following year.
