Smiles all around as teenagers make the grade IT was smiles in abundance as dozens of apprehensive teenagers settled their nerves and opened their GCSE results at Oaklands School yesterday.
Throwing their arms round each other, the students celebrated the achievements of five years of hard work.
As groups gathered in the school grounds to open the dreaded results letters, tears flowed, spirits ran high and smiles filled the faces of the nervous youngsters.
The school enjoyed a 48 per cent A* to C pass rate, up from last year's result of 41 per cent.
High flyers included 16-year-olds Ellie Cook and Josh Longman.
Ellie managed to score As, Bs and Cs in all her exams.
She said: "I'm really chuffed. It's such a relief, I couldn't believe it when I opened the letter.
"All the hard work has now paid off."
Ellie is now going to college to study art and English.
Josh achieved a brilliant seven As, one B and one C.
Josh is now going to Totton College to do forensic science.
