A HAMPSHIRE school has bagged a community grant, thanks to a supermarket's conservation-minded shoppers.
Hedge End's Sainsbury's store has donated £200 to Wyvern Technology College in Fair Oak. The cash will be used to buy materials for students on the Step by Step programme.
It is aimed at helping them to develop numeracy, literacy and personal and social skills.
The supermarket raised the cash using a new scheme that encourages customers to recycle plastic shopping bags, cutting waste and being kind to the environment.
Sainsbury's new community grants scheme is funded entirely from the profits on the sales of Bags for Life.
The bags cost 10p and are replaced free of charge when they eventually wear out.
They are recycled with all the other plastic waste at the store.
By buying a Bag for Life customers are contributing to the local community projects and helping the environment.
Store manager Darren Noonan said: "We play an important role in this community and want to do all we can to be part of it.
"Helping local children to grow and achieve their full potential is a terrific investment for the future."
