General Practices (GPs) are often the lifeblood of the local community, so if you're living in the Southampton area you ideally want to find one that's well-liked by those who use it.

There are many surgeries around the area serving local residents, but which ones are considered to be the best?

In an effort to gauge opinions on local GP surgeries, we put out a Facebook post asking people what rating they would give the one they use.

With more than 120 comments in response to the post, opinions were certainly varied.

Here's what Southampton residents had to say about their local GP surgeries.

The positive comments

There were a huge amount of positive comments from residents about their local GP surgeries, with many giving a 10/10 rating.

Another described it as "brilliant" and also gave mention to Dr Boddeke who is said to be "a fantastic doctor".

West End Road Surgery had a few 9/10s and 10/10 with one person posting: "Only once have I struggled to get an appointment and for the most part, the staff there have been friendly enough (with a special shout out to Lynne who has supported us a lot in the last 9 months)."

The Thornhill Doctors Surgery was lauded by a couple of people with one saying that the "staff can't do enough for you".

Praise also came in for the Shirley Avenue Surgery, Peartree Practice, Blackfield Surgery, the Hedge End Medical Centre and the Lordshill Surgery

The negative comments

Despite the many positive comments about many of the GPs, there were a few that were not so satisfied with the service of some of them.

One person discussing the Solent GP Surgery said: "Solent GP surgery absolutely useless never answer the phones or when they do wont give you an appointment and want to guess the issue over the phone."

Another was not complimentary about Brook House Surgery, giving it a 0/10 in the process.

Explaining this they said: "can never get an appointment. They just tell you to go to minor injuries unit at rsh".

Whilst the Hedge End did get a few points of praise in the comments of the Facebook post, it wasn't everybody's favourite.

One person shared: "Hedge End medical centre is awful, they are not getting any points from me, and they used to be brilliant."

Western Lane received a 0/10 from one individual who said: "Promised a phone call after a visit yesterday by receptionist. But it never happened."

The New Horizons Medical Partnership in Totton didn't escape from some flak either, with it receiving a 1/10 score from one individual.

A person replying to the initial comment said: "I wouldn’t even give it that!"

Alongside these GPs, the Meon Health Practice in Fareham had the most individual comments criticising it, with one person giving it -1000/10.

Finally, one person didn't specify which surgery they were talking about, but joked: "It's easier to get an appointment with The Pope!!!"
