Loose Women panellist Brenda Edwards has appeared on the show giving a heartfelt interview into the “sudden” death of her beloved son Jamal. 

Brenda sat in the garden of close friend and co-panellist Coleen Nolan’s house for the pre-recorded interview before returning to the show tomorrow. 

Entrepreneur and music producer Jamal died at the age of 31 on Sunday, February 20.

The touching interview was introduced by Ruth Langsford on the ITV show this lunchtime who stated it would be “the best way” for Brenda to discuss what happened to her son.

How did Jamal Edwards die? 

Sitting in the spring sunshine on Coleen’s garden sofa, Brenda said:  “I’m okay, I’m taking each day as it comes.

“The one thing I do want to say is that I was with him and his sister was with us, we were all at home. 

“It was sudden, it was unexpected and he went into a cardiac arrest and then he passed with me holding his hand.

“I get a little bit of comfort knowing that I was with him.

“As much as that is comfort, that's a vision I will never forget.

“I wake up every morning and I say good morning baby and good night baby and that’s what’s keeping me going.” 

As a woman of faith, Brenda explained how since Jamal’s sudden passing she’s felt very close to God which has been a “massive comfort”. 

Jamal gained fame from setting up new music platform SBTV – helping to launch a string of UK music careers including Dave and Jessie J.

He was an ambassador for the Prince’s Trust, a charity headed by the Prince of Wales, and in 2014 he was awarded an MBE for his services to music.

Brenda described that since his passing strangers have come up to her and said how much Jamal had helped them. 

She said: “It meant a lot to me to know that my son made such a difference to so many people.”

Jamal had “pretty much thought of everything”, Brenda explained, saying how he had left instructions for her ahead of his death with projects she was to undertake. 

Described as a ‘homegoing’, not funeral, Brenda explained how Jamal had wanted Chelsea FC to be involved. 

The homegoing was held in Luton where he was born with guests dressing in blue and white in a day that was described as “beautiful”. 

“He’s definitely here, when we laid him to rest we looked up in the sky and the clouds had formed a J,” said Brenda.

She added: “Something that was hard for me was the fact that the  announcement of his passing which was taken away from me and it was announced elsewhere but I was glad that I was able to keep control of his homegoing service.” 

Since his passing the Jamal Edwards Self Belief Trust has been set up with two main things in mind. Brenda said: “Jamal was all about empowering young people and we want to set up an academy for 16 to 21 year olds where we give them an internship if you will over a year where we teach them everything from the ground up.

“The second thing is that we want to set up a homeless sanctuary.”

Coleen said she could see Jamal in Brenda as she was talking, saying that his spirit and passion was shining through her.

Brenda said: “He said we all die the goal is not to live forever but to create something that will and i believe that he has created something that will and I’m determined to make sure that it will and that’s my goal.

Coleen explained that she was in awe of everything Brenda has been through and called her “incredible”. 

Wowed by Brenda’s strength Coleen said: “Jamal is somewhere saying ‘that’s my mom, there she goes’. 

“You should be so proud because I’m so proud of you and he would be, and Tanisha.” 

Brenda explained that Jamal’s sister Tanisha had been her strength throughout this time.

The Loose Women panellists have also been there for Brenda, with 

Coleen said: “Everyone rallied around, everyone came and I thought that was lovely because we are like a family we go through everything together.”

Brenda: “It has been great having the ladies there and that has been a big part of my life and the kids lives and I need to return.

She added: “I want to thank everyone.”

Brenda will be back on the Loose Women panel tomorrow for the first time.
