Aaron Martin has returned to Saints after his loan spell at Crystal Palace was cancelled by mutual consent.
The 23-year-old former Eastleigh centre half had been due to stay at The Eagles for the entire season to gain first team experience.
Martin had a run of five games in August but since the departure of Dougie Freedman and the arrival of Ian Holloway has fallen out of favour.
Martin has made only one appearance since the end of August, and that was as a sub as Palace defeated Wolves on New Year’s Day.
Elsewhere former Saints striker David McGoldrick has joined Ipswich on loan from Nottingham Forest with a view to a permanent deal while rumoured Saints target Will Buckley has signed a contract extension with Brighton that ties him to the club until 2017.
