ALDERSHOT, Farnham and District made a clean sweep of the senior races at the Hampshire Cross Country League’s round four event at Bournemouth’s Kings Park at the weekend.
With overnight rain making the 6km course considerably tougher than usual, normal service was resumed in the women’s race as an Aldershot vest pressed to the front and went on to win and lead the team to top spot yet again. The winner, Montana Jones, had teammate Annabelle Grady in third, having been split by a gritty run from Laura Brenton (Southampton AC) who is having a very good Hants League season. Winchester ladies team placed second thanks primarily to two veteran runners, Lucy Elliott (7th) and Emma Rogers (8th) leaving Southampton in third place. The senior men had the final honour on their 9.6 km race of four laps, with the winter rain starting to heave down again half way through their effort.
Aldershot’s Steve Connor won this round after a short battle with his own colleague, Josh Grace, who was second.
A brand new face to the league – Poole’s F Bailey – snatched third.
By having their scoring team of five within the first 15 men home, Aldershot were well clear in the team standings.
Bournemouth AC were some way behind in second place on their home course, leaving Southampton in third on the day.
The Hampshire Cross Country League stages its finale for the season on Saturday, February 9 at Hudson’s Field , Salisbury, when the titles and promotion and relegation issues will be resolved on the sloping grasslands of another playing field-style circuit.
