GEORGE Burley hailed teenage star Gareth Bale's growing maturity after the 17-year-old rescued Saints from more awayday misery.

Bale's late leveller at Sunderland was Saints' first goal on their travels for almost six and a half hours.

It prevented George Burley's men from a fifth successive away loss.

And it moved Saints to within two points of the play-off zone - even though the club have now recorded just two league wins in eight games.

"Gareth, even in the last couple of months, has matured as a player, he's improved his game and has really been outstanding," enthused Burley.
