New Southampton boss Mauricio Pochettino was appointed in controversial circumstances after fans' favourite Nigel Adkins was sacked despite leading the Saints to back-to-back promotions and 15th place in the Barclays Premier League.
Pochettino took charge of his first game tonight as Saints welcomed Everton to St Mary's, with the game finishing in a 0-0 draw. Here, the Daily Echo takes a look at how the former Espanyol manager got on.
TEAM SELECTION Adkins was criticised on several occasions for leaving out his bigger-name players, but Pochettino recalled both captain Rickie Lambert and club-record signing Gaston Ramirez for his first game in charge, a move that would have pleased those Saints fans questioning his appointment.
CROWD REACTION The planned white handkerchief protest did not materialise and, despite pro-Adkins chants aplenty, Pochettino received warm applause before kick-off. Southampton's domination of the first half meant all ill-feeling towards Pochettino was soon forgotten.
TACTICAL DECISIONS Had his side set up to attack Everton from the off and was unfortunate to not see his flair players provide a first-half goal. Responded to an enforced change in tactics from Everton by introducing Jay Rodriguez whilst replacing Ramirez with Steven Davis when the Toffees started to get the upper hand in midfield.
TOUCHLINE DEMEANOUR Out in his technical area after just five minutes gesticulating and barking orders to his team and remained there for the majority of the game. Prowled the touchline with arms folded and only retreated to discuss tactics with his new coaching staff.
