AFC Totton 2 St Neots Town 1
Totton had keeper Gareth Barfoot to thank as they defied a late St Neots rally before claiming all three points at the Testwood Stadium.
The Stags had an early scare on six minutes when Dan Jacobs’ cross to the far post was volleyed over from close range by the unmarked Ben Mackey.
But, as the half wore on, Totton began to dominate and a succession of Mike Gosney corners saw Richard Gillespie bring out timely stops from St Neots keeper Jack Giddens.
The deadlock was broken six minutes before the break when Gillespie was brought down rounding Giddens and GOSNEY drove the resultant spot kick into the right-hand corner.
Then, just two minutes into the second period, the lead was doubled as BAILY CARGILL’s deflected drive from just inside the area flew in past Giddens.
St Neots efforts to get back into the game were rewarded on 72 minutes when MACKEY scored from the spot after Ross Bottomley was penalised for his heavy challenge on Adrian Fear.
And as the visitors pushed forward in search of an equaliser, Barfoot was forced to pull off a series of fine saves in the home goal.
