SAINTS boss George Burley admits he is looking at "little variations" in a bid to solve the club's striking problems.
Statistics show that the average number of goals scored by a team finishing in the play-offs in the last five years is 70.
Saints, who are just two points off a top six place at present, have so far scored just 21 in 17 games.
That leaves them on course for about 57 goals.
Only one team have ever scored that many goals and finished in the play-offs since the current system was introduced in the early 1990s.
Ironically, that side is Leeds, Saints' opponents at Elland Road this weekend, who finished fifth with that many goals last season.
Burley has tried four combinations to solve the goals worry - even playing Nathan Dyer up front last weekend - but still believes in his players to deliver.
Burley said: "We're just looking at the moment, we've tried a few variations and a couple of things out.
"We've got one or two knocks and Grzegorz is still not fully fit and feeling his ribs.
"We're looking at little variations because there's no doubt it's the one area we need to improve because we're not taking enough chances."
