French full back Yoann Lachor has explained why he rejected Southampton last January.

The 30-year-old joined Saints on trial during the last winter transfer window but was unable to agree terms on a deal with George Burley's side.

Lachor then returned to France, where he has since joined Ligue 1 new-boys Sedan, and the defender has now spoken of his failure to secure a move to the South Coast.

He said: "They only offered me a six-month contract with an option for one additional season.

"There were no guarantees of me playing every week, so it was a 50-50 decision. But I would have needed three months to adapt to the country and the language, so I said no.

"If they had offered me a year-and-a-half contract, I would have said okay.

"Southampton have a great infrastructure and it would have been nice to experience playing there.

"It would have been a big change and I would have loved to learn a new culture."
