Trojans scored three times in the opening 25 minutes to secure a 3-1 win over Slazenger England Women's League Division 1 rivals Poynton, from Lancashire, at Stoneham Lane.

Barbados international Jojo Davis put the Stoneham girls in front midway through the first half, while two goals in 90 seconds from Laura Hudson and Nyssa McNeill, who converted a penalty corner, clinched the win.

Cath Linaker clawed a consolation goal back for the visitors before half-time.

But there was no joy for Southampton, who fell to a 4-0 defeat by Staines at the Sports Centre.

It was Southampton's ninth defeat in ten outings - a sequence of results which leaves the reshaped city side firmly fastened to the bottom of the table.
