It's all the fives for Fareham, who are sitting pretty on top of South Premier League Division 2 two weeks before the Christmas break.

They ran in five second-half goals to win 5-0 at Gore Court and so open up a healthy five-point lead at the top of the table.

It was the first time this season Gore Court had been beaten at Sittingbourne and Fareham coach Nigel Cook described it as "a potential banana skin avoided".

Since they secured their lofty top-table position, Fareham have encountered opponents who put men behind the ball from the start and make themselves difficult to break down.

"Gore Court was no different, but we showed a great deal of patience for 35 minutes and then produced some of our best hockey of the season to blow them away in the second half," Cook said.

Craig Peel, who craves for a South Africa international call-up in the new year, rattled the Kentish woodwork during a goalless Fareham dominated first half.

Gore Court's ploy of pushing more players forward after the break played straight into Fareham's hands.

A timely interception by James Seager set up a three-man move between Peel, Jonny Kinder and Woody McInally to spark the Fareham goal flow.

Gore Court were ripped open again by a move which culminated in a Danny Makaruk strike, while McInally made it 3-0 after the creative Kinder had done the spadework.

Seager's fourth - set up by Peel and Marvin Harper - added to Gore Court's woe.

But the punishment didn't end there because Kinder, taking time off from his GCSE latin studies, set up a fifth for Makaruk.
