Organisers have pulled the plug on a star-studded exhibition night of darts.
The Southampton City Masters, scheduled to be staged at Southampton Guildhall on June 21, was to feature four world quality PDC players.
Top of the list was two times world champion Adrian Lewis, who showed glimpses of his former self in last week’s Sky televised UK Open at Bolton.
Premier League star Andy Hamilton, who has risen to sixth in the world rankings, was also on the bill, along with favourite Kevin Painter and Jamie Caven who recently won two PDC events in two days.
But take-up for the event has been poor.
The cancellation will come as a disappointment to the fans who had bought tickets – and to three amateur players from local leagues.
Shame Kev Woodward, John Pearson and Angie Cotton will miss out after earning the right to take on the stars in one leg of 501 after doing well in the Freemantle, Shirley & District League.
League secretary Ian Meyer, who had purchased several tickets for the event, said: “It’s a shame for those players who were looking forward to getting up on the stage and playing them (the professionals). “I know they will be disappointed.
“Angie was over the moon about playing the stars.”
