Cagliari midfielder Radja Nainggolan has been quoted as saying he has received an offer from Saints.
The 25-year-old, said to be valued around the £15m mark, has been linked with a move to St Mary’s throughout the summer.
The Belgian international has now been quoted in the Italian media as saying Saints have made him a substantial offer, although he has indicated a transfer is far from certain, with a number of other clubs keen on signing him also.
“I have received a tempting offer from Southampton,” the central midfielder is reported to have said.
“Their proposal is the most attractive from an economic standpoint. But I do not play for the money. My priority is to have a major career.”
Nainggolan did add, however, that he would be happy to move to England, although he also revealed he would not definitely leave Italian side Cagliari.
His quotes emerged shortly after Celtic’s £10m-rated central midfielder Victor Wanyama revealed his club have agreed a fee with Saints for his services.
