DEAN Stoneman is even more determined to
win the Porsche Carrera Cup after a bitter-
sweet weekend in Yorkshire.
The Southampton-born racing car driver was denied a sec¬
ond successive victory in controversial circumstances after
winning round nine of the competition at Croft, North
Yorkshire.
Five cars were eliminated on the second corner of round
ten when championship leader Michael Meadows hit the
back of Stoneman, the Bishop’s Waltham-based speedster
having braked.
“From the re-start, Stoneman was able to pull clear but
after crossing the line first he was excluded for his part in the
accident,” said the report on Porsche GB’s official website.
“I received a hefty nudge at turn one then needed to brake
to keep car stable for turn two,” explained Stoneman, who
lost out on 20 points for winning the race as well as being
deducted eight more.
Despite the decision, Stoneman remains positive ahead of
the next round, at Snetterton, Norfolk, on August 3.
He tweeted: “Will come back in six weeks faster, fitter,
stronger than ever before. To be robbed of a win in these cir¬
cumstances has only made more determined!”
Stoneman is now third at the Porsche Carrera Cup’s mid¬
way point.
Leaders: Michael Meadows 163, Jonas Gelzinis 157, Dean
Stoneman 129.
