ATHERLEY produced the result of the Dales Bowls/Duralay Egham Trophy when toppling Victory 85-70.

The Portsmouth club delegated former Atherley skips Colin Thresher and Richard Shelley for duty at Hill Lane but they were given a hot reception with Thresher beaten 18-13 by Roger Stonham and Shelley trailing 18-4 until hitting back for a 21-21 tie against Dink Mintrum.

However, the rink that really put daylight between the teams was that of Mick Barrett who demolished Victory's Liberty Trophy skip Steve Robertson 29-10 at Portsmouth. Alongside, Eddie Rowe of Atherley lost 26-17 to Charlie Bailey.

In Sunday's second round, Atherley face Palmerston who won 79-71 after winning three rinks against Five Rivers.

Jill Cook, Derek Arnold, Bill Jackson and Sandy Moyse (29-18 against Maureen Gourlay), Andrew Miller, Audrey Packman, Viv Bramble and Neil O'Donovan (20-11 against Graham House) and Russell Gadd, Linda Maple, Eric Brierley and Rose King (17-15 against Dennis Shipp) did the trick for Palmerston even though Terry Spreadbury scored the biggest rink win of the match for Five Rivers, 27-13 against Linda Keyford, Pam Lambshead, Brian Morgan and Clive Chambers.

Chris Ralph (22-18 against Peter Furmidge) gave Riverside their consolation in an 87-75 defeat by Isle of Wight. Fred Rylands (26-18 against John Lind), Roy Jemson (26-19 against Eddie Bates) and Vernon Findell (17-16 against Ron Snook) hit form for the Islanders whose next opponents are Arun, who beat Banister Park 83-60.

The best Banister Park could manage was the 22-22 draw of Chris Hall, Midge Pitter, John Joslin and Graham Standley.

Jean Sait, Lorraine Prior, Stuart Martin and Barry Bendall stumbled 22-11 to April Janman with Sue Murrey, Yvonne Bott and Pete and Mark Hammond falling 18-12 to Peter Hannam and Pauline Aslin, Wendy Berry, Steve Whitehead and Steve Rice beaten 21-15 by Colin Knight.

East Dorset's lacklustre term continued with an 83-79 defeat by Bournemouth.
