SAINTS fans have given a mixed welcome to the unveiling of one of the most expensive replica shirts in the entire Premier League.
The club’s new-look shirt for the 2013/14 season went on sale yesterday, with hundreds of fans queuing outside the Saints’ Megastore in West Quay.
They delivered an overwhelming thumbs up to the mainly red shirt.
But an online poll of supporters on the Daily Echo’s website, which closed last night with almost 3,000 votes cast, showed just over 70 per cent of fans did not like it.
For the second season running, Saints have ditched the club’s traditional red and white stripes, which has angered many fans.
At £50 for an adult shirt, Saints’ new top is also the joint third most expensive in the top flight.
The only dearer adult shirts are the Manchester United and Manchester City ones, which both retail at £55.
Arsenal and Everton’s shirts are also £50, while Chelsea, West Bromwich Albion, West Ham and Fulham are both a penny shy of that figure.
The cheapest Premier League shirt is newly promoted Hull City’s at £39.99.
